Who are we?

Mission Statement

The American Studies Association of Norway (ASANOR)
ASANOR is a professional, academic organization for people who are actively interested in American Studies. ASANOR Members are invited to attend annual ASANOR conferences in Norway. Our website address is  www.asanor.com.

ASANOR is closely affiliated with The Nordic Association for American Studies (NAAS) whose objective is to encourage and support the scholarly study of the United States and its civilization in the five Nordic countries: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden, and to facilitate communication and contact between those interested in such studies. NAAS publishes the biannual journal American Studies in Scandiniavia, distributes the NAAS newsletter twice a year, and organizes a conference every odd year.  Membership is open to all.   Library or other institutional subscriptions do not include membership in NAAS.  NAAS is one of the member organizations of the European Association for American Studies (EAAS) which distributes The Newsletter of the European Association of American Studies to NAAS members and organizes conferences every even year.

The ASANOR Endowment Fund is the association's  fund for the research and teaching of American Studies in Norway.  To date, most of its grants have gone to participants in the annual ASANOR conference.
