SECOND CALL FOR PAPERS
THE 37TH ANNUAL ASANOR
AMERICAN STUDIES CONFERENCE
TO BE HELD AT ØSTFOLD UNIVERSITY COLLEGE
ON OCTOBER 19 – 21, 2012
CROSSROADS: AMERICAN DIRECTIONS
NB!
NOW ALSO CELEBRATING THE 25TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FULBRIGHT ROVING SCHOLARS PROGRAM
Dear Colleagues,
You are once more invited to submit proposals to the 37th Annual ASANOR American Studies conference.
Since the first CFP went out early this year, there has been a new and interesting development. ASANOR has been asked by the U.S.-Fulbright Foundation to include within the upcoming conference a celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Roving Scholars Program. This program, unique to Norway, has allowed teachers and scholars from America to visit secondary schools throughout the country. Many former Roving Scholars will therefore be returning to attend the conference to make scholarly contributions. Thus far proposals have been accepted from Sue Bennett, Paul V. Bredeson, Judith Franzak, Kathleen Godfrey, Ann Y. Mulhearn, Randell J. Stephens, Cristina Ruotolo, Christopher M. Sterba and Michael Wohlfeil.
It promises to be an even more interesting gathering to take part in than usual. Therefore we have extended the deadline for proposals.
Below you will find a list of sub-themes within which proposals may be made. We would particularly like to encourage contributions from graduate students, post-doctoral candidates and active scholars in the process of completing their projects. The work of new scholars is especially valuable in our field and special economic provisions – including the waver of conference fees and transportation grants – will be made to smooth their participation.
Sub-Themes (consider these a point of departure for you own perceptions of American directions.)
Trends in Contemporary American Literature
Cultural Variety and Artistic Renewal
The Impact of Digital Media on the Arts
Cultural Critique in Popular Genres
The Disunited States of America: Fractured Politics
Shifting Global Leadership: Quo Vadis?
Minorities and Majorities; Switching Places
The extended deadline for abstracts/proposals is August 1, 2012.
Send your proposals by post or e-mail to:
Associate Professor Robert Mikkelsen
Østfold University College
