At long last the invitation for the ASANOR/NACS conference in (often) sunny Kristiansand is ready. The conference will be held at Quality Hotel 16-18 October.
A program should follow by the weekend. Please note that pre-registration is essential, the earlier the better, but no later than 9 October.
I look forward to hearing from you as soon as possible.

ASANOR and NACS/ANECS, Norway
Joint Conference
Oslo, October 16 – 18, 2009
AT THE QUALITY HOTEL, KRISTIANSAND
The American Studies Association of Norway (ASANOR) and the Norwegian Chapter of The Nordic Association for Canadian Studies/L'Association Nordique des Etudes Canadiennes (NACS/ANEC) cordially invite their members to attend the annual joint conference of ASANOR and NACS/ANEC, to be held at the Quality Hotel, Kristiansand during the weekend of October 16 - 18, 2009.
Conference Program
The conference theme is Post-war North America in Politics, Culture, and Literature 1950-2000.The program consists of lectures on American and Canadian literature, society and politics; some of the talks focus unilaterally on either an American or a Canadian topic, while others may adopt a comparative approach. The conference convenes at the Quality Hotel, Kristiansand, on the outskirts of the city, close to the zoo. A detailed program of speakers will follow soon.
Conference Registration
Obligatory pre-registration for the conference is made by returning the slip below by October 9 to michael.j.prince@uia.no; please mark the subject line ASANOR-NACS 2009. Upon arrival at the hotel, registration will take place on Friday October 16 in the foyer of Quality Inn Hotel from 16:00 to 19:00. Due to the fact that this conference will occur at this single venue, guests of the hotel will pay no conference fee, though a "memorial donation" to the ASANOR Endowment Fund of NOK 200 would be gratefully accepted at registration.
For those who will not be staying at the hotel, the following fees must be tendered:
Post Keynote dinner, Friday evening: 345
Conference participation, including coffee and lunch Saturday & Sunday: 770
Banquet Saturday night: 345
Please indicate specifically which of these are relevant for you in your pre-registration.
Travel and Accommodation
The Kristiansand Airport Kjevik is served by KLM, SAS, and Norwegian Air. For the more intrepid who wish to try to work on line with their lap-tops jiggling on their knees, numerous bus companies ply their trade between Oslo and Kristiansand. And for those so inclined to take the train, NSB serves the city admirably from Stavanger and Oslo.
From the air field, a taxi will charge you an obscene fee to take you directly to the hotel, so arranging to share the ride would make economic sense. Train and bus leave you downtown on Vestre Strand gate. Cross this street on to Henrik Wergelandsgt. to meet the M1 bus that frequently drives out to Quality Inn (every fifteen minutes).
The price for a single or double room is NOK 989 per person. This includes Dinner Friday evening; breakfast, lunch and banquet Saturday; breakfast and lunch Sunday.

APPLICATION FOR TRAVEL GRANT
Conference participants may apply on this form for partial support of expenses from the ASANOR Endowment Fund. We ask you to take two factors into serious consideration: (1) The Endowment Fund's resources are limited; (2) some measure of priority must be given to those who have not received grants in the past. At the same time, our intention is to help as many as possible to attend this conference, particularly new scholars in the field.
To apply, to ask for more information, or to state special circumstances, please communicate with Robert Mikkelsen via email: robert.mikkelsen@hiof.no
The deadline for Endowment Fund grant applications is October 1, 2009.
