JAH REPORT DUE BY NOVEMBER 10th

JAH REPORT DUE BY AUGUST 15TH
From Professor Ole O. Moen:

Dear Colleagues:

It is time for me to submit the Autumn Report to the Journal of American
History about our research publications. I need your reports by Nov. 10.
I enclose the "style sheet" (which you need not adhere to as long as all
the data are there. I can do the finishing work.)

Best,

Ole

Guidelines for Submitting International Recent Scholarship and Books for Review in the JAH, Revised 1-06

The JAH publishes lists of books, articles (from journals and edited volumes), and dissertations on topics of American history, broadly defined. Your list should be submitted to:

Editorial Assistant for Internationalization
Journal of American History
1215 E. Atwater
Bloomington, IN 47401
USA

If you wish to submit your list electronically, please send it as a text attachment via e-mail to
coeditor@indiana.edu. We ask that you do not fax lists of recent scholarship.

CATEGORIES:
In order to facilitate as many search options as possible in our online database, the JAH lists Recent Scholarship according to topical as well as chronological categories. When submitting RS, we ask you to give us the main topical category as well as the chronological category you consider the entry falls into. Categories are particularly helpful to us for book entries, since in many cases the title itself does not reveal the specific content of the book. However, we ask you to submit categories with all entries.

For
BOOKS, please include the following information: author name, title in original language (for languages that do not follow the Latin alphabet—Japanese, Russian, etc.—should be transliterated into Latin characters), translation of the title into English, city of publication, name of the press, year of publication, number of pages, price in local currency (if available), ISBN number, and language(s) of publication.

Please note:
When translating a title, please make sure to follow the punctuation of the original title. Hence, if a period separates the main from the subtitle, please use a period in your translation as well. Also note that in translations all characters are lowercase except proper nouns (United States, New Deal, etc.)

For example, a book published in Italian should be listed as follows:

Iurlano, Giuliana, Sion in America. Idee, progetti, movimenti per uno stato ebraico 1654–1917 (Sion in America. Ideas, projects, and movements for a Jewish State [1654–1917].) (Florence: Lettere, 2005. 507 pp. 35 Euros, ISBN 88-7166-879-0.) In Italian. (The main topical category for the entry would be REL=Religion, the chronological category would be 7=General).

ARTICLES FROM JOURNALS
should include the author name, article title and translation, journal name and city of publication, volume number, month or season (if applicable) and year of publication, page numbers, and language of the article (if not English).

For example:

Portes, Jacques, La guerre du Viet-nam: Entre décolonisation et protectorat(The Vietnam War: Between decolonization and protectorate), Cahiers de lInstitut dHistoire du Temps Présent (Paris), 34 (1996), 143–56. In French.

ARTICLES FROM EDITED COLLECTIONS
should include the name of the author, article title and translation, name and translation of the volume title, the editorsnames, pages, press, city, year of publication, price in local currency (if available), ISBN number, and language of the article (if not English).

For example:

Greiner, Bernd, “Krieg und Zivilgesellschaft in den USA – Erblasten des 20. Jahrhunderts“ (War and civil society in the United States – Ramifications of the twentieth century) In Demokratien im Krieg (Democracies in war), ed. Christine Schweitzer, Björn Aust, and Peter Schlotter, 275-97 (Baden-Baden: Nomos, 2004. Euro 29.00, ISBN 3-83290-754-8.) In German.

DISSERTATIONS
should include authors name, full title and translation, institution from which the dissertation was written, the year of the degree, and the language of publication (if not English).

For example:

Strunz, Gisela, American Studies oder Amerikanistik? Die deutsche Amerikawissenschaft und die Hoffnung auf Erneuerung der Hochschulen und der politischen Kultur nach 1945" (American Studies or Amerikanistik?: German American Studies and the hope of renewal for higher education and political culture after 1945) (University of Bayreuth, 1998). In German.

SUBMITTING BOOKS FOR REVIEW:
We encourage our International Contributing Editors to send us books published in their country/language they consider deserving of a review in the JAH. Please send us a copy of the book to the address above and make sure to include the same information as is necessary for submitting books as Recent Scholarship. In addition, please include a brief statement about the content of the book, as well as some basic information about the author. This will help us find a reviewer for the book.
