"Post-war North America in Politics, Culture, and Literature 1950-2000"
16 – 18 October, 2009 Kristiansand, Norway
The second half of the 20th century has witnessed immense changes in economic production and social organization with mass emigration to suburbia and the attendant practical and cultural adjustments that entailed. While social, political and economic relationships have become progressively less familiar and secure, institutions to moderate these interactions experienced a historical lag, and had to adjust or reinvent themselves to keep pace. Media and the arts, law, and economic activity have all undergone a transformation to accommodate this shift, with varying degrees of success. Efforts to resist these changes or their institutional accommodations have also taken innovative forms.
